Search Engine Submissions

This may not be a problem any more, but I used to see websites that would offer to submit your website to 500 search engines for a certain fee or submit your site monthly, also for a fee. Avoid those sites if you see any offers like that.

As the chart to the right shows, the top five search engines are responsible for nearly all the searches performed on the internet. The percentages are approximate and each of those engines may feed other, smaller search engines, but the reality is you only need to submit to those five.

Some say you don’t need to submit your site at all. If your site is linked to by at least one other website that is already indexed by a search engine, your site should be picked up automatically as it crawls that site.
